Arty Party

For my daughter's seventh birthday party, we had an arty party. It was a fun and easy party to arrange.

When the kids arrived we had a treasure hunt for them to find their hidden canvasses, pencils and sharpeners in the garden. When everyone had found their supplies, they settled down to designing their masterpieces. I had set up a few still life subjects around the art tables (the usual bowl of fruit/ bunch of flowers), but the kids were very imaginative with ideas of their own!

While they were painting I got everyone to guess how many colourful jellybeans were in a glass jar - the closest guess won the jar to take home.

 

We hired an inflatable slip 'n slide which was the perfect thing for the budding artists to rinse off on once they had finished their paintings.

Before the guests left, I had a large painter's easel set up to display their works of art. Each child had a turn to don a large white painter's smock and beret with their painting and an ENORMOUS paintbrush on display for a photo-op. We used these proud pictures in our thank-you messages sent to all the aspiring artists. Each child took their completed canvas, pencils, sharpeners and party packs home with them.

How to build a Dunk Tank !

Things You’ll Need:

• Nails
• Screws
• Saw
• Hammer
• Drill
• Screw driver
• Bicycle wheel
• Water tank
• Wooden boards
• Paint
• Target
• Door latch
• String
• Epoxy
• Tape
• Contact cement
• Cloth
• Vinyl
• Foam
Instructions
• Step 1:
Get a big plastic tank filled with water. You can use an industrial sized barrel, storage tank or some sort of above ground pool.
• Step 2:
Take a large board, wide enough to fit across the tank, and cut out a rectangular piece from the middle for the seat.
• Step 3:
Attach the seat back into the support board with heavy duty hinges at the back so that it can swing down freely.
• Step 4:
Attach a heavy duty door latch of the type used in public restrooms to the underside of the seat so that, when the latch is closed, the seat can't swing down. Use screws and epoxy to attach and reinforce it.
• Step 5:
Horizontally mount a bicycle wheel on the far side of the tank. It should be mounted on the same side that the latch is going to be on. Mount it in such a way that it will spin freely.
• Step 6:
Create a target. You can use a simple piece of wood, a caricature, or anything else. The point is to make something for people to throw at.
• Step 7:
Nail the target to the end of the lever arm.
• Step 8:
Attach a large lever arm to the bicycle wheel. This is the board that the target is going to be mounted on, so it should reach out far to the side of the wheel.
• Step 9:
Cover the seat board with something comfortable to sit on. This is going to be the seat, so you want to use something padded. Foam attached with contact cement would be an excellent choice, but even a thin layer of cloth or vinyl would work.
• Step 10:
Attach the longer board across the top of the tank so that the other board swings downward when released. Depending on what the tank is made of, you could use epoxy, nails, brackets or any combination.
• Step 11:
Attach a string from the bicycle wheel to the latch so that, when the lever arm swings back, the latch pulls out and releases the seat.
• Step 12:
Fill the pool with water.
Tips & Warnings
• Depending on the height of the dunk tank, you may have to use a step ladder to climb on to the seat.
• Cutting a window in the front of the tank and filling it with clear perspex will let people watch the dunked fall into the water.
• Mounting the wheel angled slightly to the outside. That way, gravity will naturally pull the lever arm into the same position after every hit.

I tell you if only I had the things available in my time, I would of had so much more memories of my childhood.
Right now I don't even know where to start with all the ideas in my head. As a guy and a dad of three kids two girls and a boy (16,7,9) I want my kids to have the most awesome parties ever.
Today I will start with a simple party game which many people don't even consider, what I like to call Silly Pin.
It is so easy to make and the kids have a totally awesome time.
firstly you can use empty cold drink cans(6) and fill them with sand, seal and design them as you please or even to the party theme that you are hosting.
Secondly you will need a small bean bag, it must not be very heavy. For you ladies it's easy to make (I hope)
Thirdly get an old 20/25l oil or paint drum. You can also decorate it. Fill it with sand, all the way to the top, where you will place three cans next to each other, two on top of the three and the last one on the top like a triangle.
Now all you need is the kids to stand behind a line that you determine depending on the age group. They must try to hit the tins off the drum. You can reward them as you please.
